ESB Energy launches its first Ultra-Rapid Charging Hub in Great Britain to enable super-fast charging of electric vehicles.

 

  • Ultra-Rapid Charging Hubs will deliver 300kW to ensure fastest possible charge for EVs 

  • First hubs located in Cardiff, Fife and Oakham

ESB Energy is delighted to announce the launch of the first of its new Ultra-Rapid (300kW) Charging Hubs in Great Britain.  

The first of these Ultra-Rapid Charger hubs can be found at:  

  • Freemans Parc, Cardiff (3x 300kW chargers / 6x charging bays) 

The next two hubs will be located at: 

  • Oakham, Rutland, East Midlands (2x 300kW chargers / 4x charging bays) coming soon 

  • Glenrothes, Fife, Scotland (3x 300kW chargers / 6x charging bays) coming soon 

More sites will be added in the coming months. Locations have been strategically selected along major motorway routes to allow for even more efficient in-trip charging.  The new sites are part of ESB Energy’s strategy in Great Britain, which aims to deploy a nationwide network of rapid and ultra-rapid charging hubs at convenient and attractive locations that serve EV drivers reliable, clean and affordable on-the-go EV charging. These are the first of many ultra-rapid charging hubs that ESB Energy will deploy as part of its continued expansion across Great Britain.     

These chargers will have contactless payment available in the coming months. In the meantime, drivers can sign up to a PAYG, Membership or Taxi price plan or charge via a one-time payment using the EV Plug In App. We will let you know when contactless payment is available in advance. Drivers can also use Auto Charge.   

ESB Energy is also currently rolling out a network of nearly 200 rapid and fast chargers in Birmingham, and already has over 130 rapid chargers in London and 39 in Coventry.

The investment in this innovative technology highlights how we are constantly looking to lead the transition to a net-zero future and deliver solutions to support increased uptake of EVs. These chargers are the first of several Ultra-Rapid Charging facilitates we plan to install in locations across Great Britain, which will allow us to continue to increase the public’s capacity for wide-scale EV use."
