ESB Energy announces price increase for rapid charging in Birmingham and Coventry
16th August 2022
At ESB Energy, we strive to keep our prices as low and as competitive as possible. However, due to the considerable increases in the wholesale cost of electricity in the UK, as well as in Europe, we need to increase the price of our rapid charging in Birmingham and Coventry in order to maintain our level of service.
Our fast charging prices will remain unchanged.
The change will come into effect on Monday 22nd August.

Why are our prices changing?
Unfortunately, the wholesale cost of electricity in the UK, as well as in Europe, continues to soar to an unprecedented level. The associated increase in our electricity costs means we need to increase the price of our rapid charging in order to maintain our level of service.
Our prices can vary across our network for a variety of reasons. Further price increases in other jurisdictions will follow in the coming weeks as existing energy contracts are renewed.
We value your custom and while we have done all that we can to absorb the increases and avoid passing these additional costs to you, this increase is unfortunately unavoidable. We will continue to offer you the most competitive rates available and will work hard to keep the cost of charging as low as possible.
Do drivers need to do anything?
If you are already signed up to use the ESB Energy public charging network, you do not need to do anything – the new rates will be displayed on the EV Plug In app and you can continue to charge as normal.
If you have not signed up to an ESB energy PAYG, Membership, or Taxi plan, we encourage you to do so here.
If you are already signed up but wish to change your price plan, please contact us via our details below.
